Interventional Cardiac Catheterization Services at Pasco Regional Medical Center
For over a decade Pasco Regional Medical Center has provided diagnostic cardiac catheterization to its community. In 2011, Pasco Regional Medical Center received its state license to offer interventional cardiovascular services, including percutaneous coronary intervention, more commonly known as PCI. PCI is used to reduce or eliminate the symptoms of coronary artery disease including chest pain, shortness of breath and congestive heart failure. It can also be used to abort a heart attack, and may even reduce death. So what does this mean for a patient at Pasco Regional Medical Center? If the patient is having a cardiac catheterization at our hospital and needs an interventional procedure such as a stent placement to correct a coronary blockage, the procedure can be done during the catheterization. In addition, our cardiac catheterization suite provides electrophysiology, pacemakers, ICD device implants, and pulmonary hypertension studies.
A New Approach to Cardiac Catheterization - Transradial Catheterization
Pasco Regional Medical Center offers a new approach to catheterization called
transradial catheterization. A transradial catheterization uses the radial artery (found in the wrist) rather than the femoral artery (in the upper thigh), as the access point where cardiologists can perform diagnostic and interventional coronary procedures. This eliminates many of the risks associated with femoral catheterization. The benefits of transradial catheterization include a shortened observation period and the ability for the patient to get up and walk around immediately following the procedure. With femoral catheterization, the patient must lay flat for up to 6 hours following the procedure.
