Weight Loss Program at Pasco Regional Medical Center
Morbid obesity is a serious disease affecting more than 9 million Americans. A person diagnosed with this condition generally weighs at least twice or 100 pounds more than his or her ideal weight. The National Institutes of Health report that morbid obesity is associated with an increased risk of developing life-threatening diseases such as diabetes, cancer and hypertension. Sufficient weight loss can improve your health, reduce your risk of developing associated conditions, and enhance your quality of life.

Our bariatric surgeons are pioneers in the field of LAP-BAND surgery for weight loss. Lee Grossbard, M.D. was one of the first surgeons to perform the LAP-BAND procedure in Florida. Dr. Grossbard is also a LAP-BAND recipient and has lost 105 pounds since his LAP-BAND surgery in 2002. Our surgeons are board certified in General Surgery and are members of the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons.
On July 1, 2005, lead bariatric surgeon, Dr. Lee Grossbard, assisted by two of his colleagues, Drs. Pandurangan Krishnaraj and Richard DiCicco, performed the first LAP-BAND over open gastric bypass surgery in the State of Florida.
In November 2008, Pasco Regional Medical Center and Lee Grossbard, M.D., were chosen as one of 15 hospitals in the nation for an FDA randomized, multi-center study to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of Allergan's BioEnterics Intragastric Balloon (BIB) System for the treatment of excess weight. Continuing on their path as bariatric surgery pioneers, our bariatric surgeons are now performing a revolutionary surgery that also promises a second chance to patients who have regained weight after gastric bypass surgery: The ROSE – Restorative Obesity Surgery Endolumenal offers an alternative for patients who may not be candidates for the band over by-pass procedure. This incision-free procedure reduces the size of a patient’s stomach pouch and stoma to the original post-bypass proportions to help you get back on the path of weight loss.
