AWARD-WINNING CENTER HEALS WOUNDS AND CHANGES LIVES

DADE CITY, FLA., (October 20, 2009) –Physicians, leaders, and clinicians met today to celebrate the Center of Distinction Award given to The Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine (Wound Center).  This prestigious award is presented by Diversified Clinical Services (DCS), the largest national wound healing company, in recognition of the Wound Center’s high patient satisfaction, exceptional healing rates and outstanding clinical outcomes:
  • Patient Satisfaction is 98.4% (national average = 91%)
  • Healing Rate is 90.5% (national average = 79.5%)
  • Days to Heal is 29.9 (national average = 47.4 days)
  • Outliers[1] is a rate of 16.2% (national average = 35%)

For twelve consecutive months, the Wound Center has achieved success in healing difficult-to-treat wounds while providing excellence in care to patients.

Pasco Regional Medical Center partners with Diversified Clinical Services, Inc. (Diversified) to provide specialized treatments through The Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine.

“Diversified brings us enormous resources and specialized expertise, both of which enable us to meet the increasing community need for dedicated wound care,” explains Stan Holm, CEO of Pasco Regional Medical Center.

“Patients who have been immobilized by chronic wounds for months, and sometimes years, are grateful for the healing experiences they have as patients of the Wound Center.”   “At the wound center, the people not only help to heal your wounds, but they truly care about you,” said Judith Roberts, a current patient who attended the award presentation.  “I was worried about the possibility of losing my foot or having skin grafts.  Now I don’t have to worry because the wound center saved my foot.”

Eight million Americans suffer from chronic wounds, which are visible and serious wounds that do not respond after thirty days of conventional medical care.   With an aging population, the diabetes and obesity epidemics, and the increasing incidence of chronic disease, the number of people suffering from hard-to-heal wounds is staggering.  The incidence of chronic wounds is highest among diabetics, which often results in amputation if not treated with the latest healing techniques.  Chronic wounds can also result from other conditions, including prolonged pressure on the skin, as well as venous and arterial diseases.

A critical component of a patient’s healing process at the Wound Center is the Medicare-approved use of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT).  HBOT accelerates the process of healing by providing more concentrated and pressurized oxygen in monitored chambers.   It is recognized as an important adjunct therapy in the treatment of hard-to-heal wounds and amputation prevention.

“We’re honored,” said Dr. Emilio Dominguez, Medical Director of the Wound Center.   “It’s a privilege to be part of a great collaborative effort between Pasco Regional Medical Center and Diversified.  Together, we are able to heal patients in this community and help them get back to living their lives.”
