Pasco Regional Medical Center Named One of the Best Places to Work
Dade City, Fla. (May 13, 2008) – Pasco Regional Medical Center was named one of the Best Places to Work in Pasco and Hillsborough Counties on May 8, 2008 during an awards breakfast held at Tampa Bay Golf and Country Club.
A total of 64 employers participated in an on-line employment survey administered by a third-party consultant. Surveyors utilized specific indicators such as overall growth rates, employee turnover, training, advancement opportunities, health and welfare benefits and other perks, to determine the results.
Pasco Regional Medical Center, in Dade City, currently employs more than 400 staff members. They are especially proud of the various programs offered for employee recognition and communication. Part of the recognition program includes monthly birthday luncheons hosted by Stan Holm, Chief Executive Officer. These luncheons give employees an opportunity to learn about the accomplishments of the facility and to share their opinions of what is being managed well, along with suggestions for improvement. “It is important to listen to your employees,” says Holm. “If you rearrange the letters in the word, listen, it spells silent.” Holm hosts monthly and quarterly luncheons to give his employees an opportunity to speak, while he and his administrative team listen. Quarterly luncheons for new hire associates, give new hires an opportunity to share ideas from their previous experience and to provide recommendations for improvement. During new hire orientation, Holm challenges new team members to make suggestions through their fresh set of eyes.
Holm also believes in the importance of praise and recognition. PRMC has various ways to recognize its employees. Employees of the Quarter are selected for nurses, managers, employees and volunteers. A Tree of Excellence program recognizes employees who live the PRMC mission of being “a community-oriented facility committed to identifying and exceeding expectations of quality in a cost-effective, courteous manner”. The TREE acronym represents Teamwork, Real-time Responsiveness, Exceptional Care and Emotional Connection. Employees identified by a TREE card receive a personal token of appreciation, notes of praise from their manager, and a copy of the card for their personnel file. The hospital also gives Impact Awards to employees who excel above and beyond expectations. The Impact Award is presented by Holm, along with a gift card, to the employee in front of his/her peers.
To communicate effectively with staff members, PRMC publishes a monthly employee newsletter titled, Pulse. This newsletter provides information for all employees about what is happening in the facility, as well as updates on upcoming events.
